Fortunate Mgidi

Fortunate Mgidi is a 26 year old proud mother of a young boy. She was born and bred in Mamelodi, a township in Pretoria East. She is from a big,loving, religious and supportive family. 

She went to pre-school in Kwazenzele , Primary in Emasangweni and  high school at Stanza Bopape. She is currently completing her diploma in Accounting at Tshwane University of Technology and will be furthering her studies with UNISA.

Her biggest desire is to reach out to many people in disadvantaged communities of Africa by uplifting, motivating and empowering them through education, health, arts, sports, and recreation.  She wants to improve and impact lives by instilling change through creative opportunities where there is a gap.

"One of my goals (plans) for next year is to raise funds and donate sanitary towels (pads) to help keep girls in school. We have a few projects in the pipeline to help raise funds and we’d appreciate donation from anyone one."

Ms Mgidi is the founder and director of Reitumetse foundation.

Reitumetse Foundation is a non-profit company found in 2019 and registered with Company and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) . The foundation is committed to implement change and impact lives with a passion of contributing to sustainable development by creating community projects and outreach projects.

 

"Reitumetse Foundation is my second company from the one I lost in 2017 called Unlimited Brand Collection boutique, a small store by the streets of Mamelodi found in 2016 to help kasi designers, crafters and local brands to showcase and make sales in the store" says Ms Mgidi.

She strives to get better at what she does no matter the circumstances and challenges she may encounter.

One of the aims of the Foundation is to rebirth old projects but with new and fresh ideas, a different motive and an improved mission. The project the foundation is currently working on is called University’s Best Snap in Fashion, it is a platform designed to assist students in the Fashion design and photography field to showcase their work jointly and jump-start their careers in accordance with all students in any field of study to participate as Models .

To enable change and transformation the foundation strongly believes in building partnership and collaboration with other organisations and companies including the government, development and academic institutions. 

Fortutune and her team have thus far reached out to all girls at Stanza Bobape Secondary School to participate in donating sanitary towels to those that may need them, the foundation has done a project with the students and staff of Tshwane University of Technology which was a breast cancer awareness campaign. To add on, they have donated blankets to the patients of a hospital in Mamelodi call Dagga (Mamelodi hospital) and  toiletries to the Mamelodi Old age. They donated food to a soup kitchen that caters for the homeless and drug victims... not only did they donate food for stomach but also food for thought by giving them hope to go back to their roots/homes and change their lives for the better.

Fortunate Mgidi says that she wouldn't have been able to achieve this if it wasn't for the love and support of her family, close friends and fellow students. What keeps her going is knowing that her son can have a role model right in the family.
