Poetry Pad Drive

 The Morwa Ramokgopa foundation (MORAFO) in collaboration with MarionTenderPablo initiated a poetry pad drive on the 14th of August which took place in Soshanguve, Block G at the creatives cafe.

The aim of the entire program was to enrich lives with poetry while also using the same platform to get donations of sanitary towels so that young girls who may need these essentials and are unable to afford them can be catered for.

One of the organizers by the name of Marion Ramoroka shared his remarks on the outcome of the event and he seemed to have been grateful that the event was a success. A few of the Artists that had been on the lineup were Zamohcofi, Soetry and Amethyst just to name a few. There was also a special performance by Senzo Africa  who happens to be signed under one of the biggest record labels in the country which is Major league music.

There was a theme to the event which was #AllBlack so that guests were not overwhelmed with outfit ideas considering the windy weather of the day the event took place. This theme was also to honor those that had passed away because of gender based violence.

The chairperson of MORAFO Pertunia Nkomo was grateful that people could stop the big event despite the weather and that there were a lot of people who enjoyed the poetry performances and the surprise act by Senzo. She said that this event meant a lot to her especially because she is female... and because she knows that they are a lot of girls who are unable to afford, so the struggle is definitely not a myth.

I think that events which can entertain people while also educating them are needed for us to actually move forward as a country. It may seem like a small initiative started in the township but it can honestly get bigger with time, dedication and sponsorship.

Companies like shoprite has started partaking in making girls lives better by selling pads for only R5 and by doing so challenging the status quo and pushing other big companies to do the same.

There have been a lot of conversations about condoms in free but pads not being free, the argument behind this is that sex is a choice and your monthly cycle is not... so the health department has to do better.

Edutainment seeks to help out the underprivileged citizen and there is no harm in having fun at an event especially if you know that your contribution is for the betterment of another human being
