First Day of Quarterfinals at BAL: Match 2 Recap

Day 3 of the Kalahari conference at SunBet Arena, Pretoria meant the first leg of the Basketball African league (BAL) Quarterfinals. The match of the day was between Al Ittihad and Fus de Rabat. Al Ittihad started strong, showing both offensive and defensive skills. Despite their early lead, Fus de Rabat (FDR) equalized at 14-14 with 1:36 remaining. Al Ittihad quickly responded, ending the quarter at 16-14.

FDR equalized again at 16-16 with 9:14 on the clock. Jordan (jersey 1) missed two shots but redeemed himself with a three-pointer. George King also contributed with a three-point equalizer. FDR briefly took the lead before another equalizer at 21-21. FDR then achieved the game's biggest lead of 5 points. However, Al Ittihad's Nouhi (jersey 7) made a crucial dunk, helping his team regain the lead. The crowd enjoyed a vibrant performance by Zee Nxumalo.

Al Ittihad scored the first basket, followed by a basket and a three-pointer from FDR's Jordan. Despite FDR's efforts, Al Ittihad maintained their lead, with team captain Anas Mahmoud (jersey 10) showing great confidence on the court.

The teams continued to exchange points, with another equalizer at 80-80 with 1:22 remaining. FDR's Abada (jersey 12) scored a free throw, but Al Ittihad responded with a two-pointer. Jordan's attempt at 11 seconds left brought the score to 82-81. Deng (jersey 45) of Al Ittihad scored two free throws, making it 84-81. Jordan's free throw brought FDR closer at 84-83, but Vinales (jersey 11) of Al Ittihad sealed the game with two more free throws.

Coach Omar Ahmed Mohamed Soliman of Al Ittihad commented, "There is definitely much more to do from here and the only way is up.” Said El Bouzodi of FDR remarked, "The referees could have been fairer, but God willing we will be better in future." Jonathan Jordan stated, "The match was intense, and it hurts losing, but we pushed till that last buzzer, and I couldn't be prouder of my team's efforts."
